Socially responsible

We believe that it is possible to have an exciting summer experience without contributing to the spread of the COVID-19. The safety of our interns and local communities is our utmost priority and we have created procedures to ensure that.

  • How do we ensure that we are not helping the spread of COVID-19?
We oblige our interns to adhere to local guidelines and laws. If required by law our interns will co-quarantine in a home with their other housemates for 14 days. If quarantine is not required by law, Covid-19 test will be administered upon arrival, and interns will be required to co-quarantine for 1-5 days (until the results are back). This way, we can ensure the safety of local communities by making sure that Covid-19 is not further spread by our actions. Furthermore, prior to the departure, we will hold an online travel safety orientation, where we will teach interns best practices to stay safe and healthy while traveling on an airplane. We will also ship the necessary travel kit (face masks, wet wipes, hand sanitizer) before departure. We will prepare the house for the interns to be quarantined in (fill up with supplies, food, board games :) ) and keep stocking up with fresh groceries delivered to the front porch. There is 24/7 support and anything the interns need will be provided. The safety of interns and local communities is our utmost priority and we will do everything to make sure this experience will be socially responsible as well as safe. Breaking the quarantine rule will result in a suspension from the program.
  • How much is the program going to cost?
Our pricing is based on the tier and location you choose. We've tried to accomodate every person's budget in our tiers. You can expect your cost to be similar - if not less - than you you would pay during your physical internship. Accoring to the quality of the house, vehicle and extra amenities you want, we have 3 tiers: - Tier 1: $4,900 - Tier 2: $6,900 (71% selected this, thus making it the most popular) - Tier 3: $8,900 Prices include flights and transportation to your new house in Hawaii.
  • Who is eligible to apply?
Any undergraduate or graduate student with a summer internship (or credible research position) above 18 years of age. There is no requirement to have a driving license. If you have any doubt of being eligible, please contact us and we'll reach back within 24 hours.
  • What are the other interns like?
In our opinion, the Beyond Interns constitute the coolest, most successful and most adventurous young people in the United States of America. From Harvard McKinsey consultants to MIT Tesla engineers and from Wharton Goldman Sachs analysts to Stanford Facebook product managers, Beyond Interns are some of the most accomplished and smart people across the US. Now imagine being in a house for two months with 3 of them! Some have been quoted saying "this is better and cheaper than if my internship were to be inperson"!
  • Will there be a fast internet connection?
Yes! That is a must and all our houses have fast and reliable connection. Keep in mind that the primary mission of a Beyond Intern is completing the remote internship requiring 24/7 high-speed Wi-Fi access, something that we are deeply concerned with.
  • How long is the program?
The length of the program is around 10 weeks with varying start dates. Most internships begin early June, but we have houses filling up on a rolling basis based on people's start-dates and preferences.
  • Is there a mandatory quarantine?
We are monitoring the situation closely and we update our plans accordingly. Currently, there is a 14-day mandatory quarantine in Hawaii until May 31.
  • How do I get my parents onboard with this?
We've heard Beyond Interns achieving this by all sorts of creative ways; from writing parent-reports, to pitching slide decks! Anything that might open up their creative avenues to see through your reasoning. Our suggestion is to focus on: 1. Safety - This is our top priority. First, our Beyond Interns' destination is probably safer from COVID-19 than the current location at home and will continue to be like this in the future. This means that you will actually be safer, than you are right now! Secondly, with all our precautions and procedures in place, we ensure the safety of our Beyond Interns as well as the community's. 2. Sanity - Staying stuck at home for the last 3 months and meeting no new people has been challenging for a lot of people. Staying another 3 summer months in the same atmosphere can drive many people to the edge. In fact, our proposed destination is starting to open the beaches, volcanos, etc allowing for a more human (and mentally stimulating) experience!
  • What do we mean by socially responsible experience?
By socially responsible experience we mean that our interns will in no way contribute to the spread of Covid-19. We will take all the necessary steps such as quarantine, testing, and social distancing to ensure safety of local communities. On the other hand, we also believe that interning at a different place than your home is possible and responsible. The locations of our choice have been heavily impacted by the current economic downturn. For example, in Hawaii, the current unemployment rate is 37% due to the high dependency on tourism. By providing this opportunity to our interns we also want to help the local communities improve their economy.
  • What if my internship is in a different time zone?
Most of our Beyond Interns will have an internship in a different time zone than their destination. After getting accepted to the program we will send out a survey to see how your online internship would look like and pair you up with people who have similar schedules. If you have never seen the sunrise in Hawaii or Puerto Rico, it is actually pretty insane; especially if that's live on your Zoom's background. Adding on, most companies are switching to an asynchronous mode or others allow for some time-flexibility.
